thinking of changing engine internals

In a few months I was planning on putting a turbo on my 98 GTi VR6, but I was thinking it might be better to rebuild the engine first. Can anyone give me any advice as far as what I should do? Im planning on getting an EIP stage 2 turbo kit which is supposed to put out about 350 whp. I just wanna make sure im not gonna blow my engine. Thanks

Re: thinking of changing engine internals

I'm just trying to figure out if I should put in a forged crank and some lower compression pistons. Does anyone agree or disagree or have any comments at all?

if you got the money, build it up.
lower comp pistons, the crank not sure if you can double spring the valves, you might want to check into that on the vr6 my V8 has double valve springs for high rpms its supposed to help so I was told.
won't hurt to do it up, instead of just slapping the turbo on the motor and than having problems week or two later. good luck

I doubt I have money to do the same at once. If i did put in the lower compression pistons can I drive without having a turbo right away?

sure it will just lack in some horsepower not much though.I would save up and do the pistons and crank at the same time and the valves. see about getting a valve job done on it maybe port and polished not sure about all that on V6 though, I am used to workin on my V8, I am sure you can do the same to a V6.

Re: thinking of changing engine internals

eip has a three layer head gasket that lowers compression. Couldnt I put the 10:1 pistons in as long as I use that?
