Cabin Air filter

Now i'm wondering how to replace the cabin fresh air filter on my '02? Anyone in here know? I think this would also help with the smoke smell.

Re: Cabin Air filter

don't smoke in it. just kidding. I used fabreez and a stuff i got at walmart called ozone or something to that effect. I alternated about every week spraying inside before I went to bed. Seems to have done a good job cuz people won't even try and light up in my truck.

Re: Cabin Air filter

Do a forum search for "cabin air filter" and pull up the last time this was discussed. Might find some useful info there.

Re: Cabin Air filter

Some trucks have it, some do not......GM's quirk....
Anyway, there are three screws holding the kickplate on the passenger's side.....Remove the screws, but only loosen the screw that is closest to the driver ( it is almost impossible to put it back, later on).....Then look around, and you should see a piece of plastic about 7-8 inches long and 1 inch thick (acts like a cap) where there is a 1 screw holding it towards the firewall....remove screw...pop out first filter, and then poke around for the second on and then reinstall everything back together......

Re: Cabin Air filter

I have 2002 and from the passenger side of the truck there is only one screw holding the filter cover on. It only took me a couple of minutes to change the filters.

Can you post a picture of this? I get the feeling I may have been looking in the wrong place.

Check out this link: http://gmdiy.info/diyinterior_cabfilters.html

And be sure to have something underneath to catch all the junk that comes out when you move the filter or panel. Mine had a lot of dirt and leave bits.

For what it's worth, I just replaced the set of 2 filters. They were $34.12 (for the pair) from the dealer. It looked like they hadn't been replaced in the 91k miles and 5 years the truck has been on the road, completely black and a couple of fistfulls of leaves etc.

Re: Cabin Air filter

Since this thread is brought back up I guess I'll ask why I dont have one of those plastic covers that bolts over all that stuff. My hangs out and IMO it looks like shit? If I pulled one out of another truck would it bolt up in my '02?

Re: Cabin Air filter

Go to a junk yard and find one or two that look like your truck with a cover and write down the VIN number for the donor truck. Got to the dealer and using your VIN see if the other truck uses the same part. They will only tell you if a part fits your truck they cannot tell you if someting fits. In other words get the part number for youy cover and then use the vin off the donor and see if the parts have the same part number. Good luck.

Do you have a "work truck" or something similar? My 2000 is an LS and they refer to cover as a sound deadener. Follow the earlier link on this thread, it has some good pictures of the screw locations. I would think the holes are already on yours. The one screw below the ashtray area is a bear. You'll need about a 2" extension to get to it.

Re: Cabin Air filter

I dont have a "work truck" its a pretty much base model regular cab sportside. Power locks and custom paint. That's about it. I'll just check for one of those covers at a junk yard. Bet I could test fit it and they'd let me have it for 5 bucks.

Re: Cabin Air filter

Call the dealer, give them your VIN and have them look at the schematic and see if your truck had one to start with. If the dealer lists the part then at least you know what you are looking for. I should have said that the first time, sorry.
