Lightbulb Is there such a thing as the Truth?

Do you think there is really an absolute truth to everything?

Example: We all know that 2+2=4 but if you add two mounds of apples to two mounds of apples you have one mound of apples, so 2+2=1 is true in a way. *Discuss*

2=2=4 is an absolute truth because that is what everybody gets told.

Truth is simply the purest form of propaganda.

Wow. That is something I never thought of before. That's quite a revelation. I'm impressed.

It's an interesting perspective, but it's more like a trick on perspective here than an exception to "truth," in my opinion.

Truth is relative, like all things. Truth is dictated by our perspectives of the world we live in. Therefore, the notion of absolute truth is more hypothetical than anything else.

2m + 2m = 1M would be a better way of describing it.

2 small mounds + 2 small mounds = 1 Large mound

My argument is that all mathematical theorems work backwards as well. These don't In reverse it has to be 1/2+1/2=1

Ahh. The concept of truth. One can go on and on about the concept of truth. It all depends on your own view on life and the world around you. Truth can be defined as what is fact, reality. However, how does one know what truly is reality? The only way people learn, experience is through the five sense. However, it is known that your senses have can trick you. So if fact / truth is based on a system of senses that has been proven sometimes to be unaccurate, how can one say anything is real? It's all in the perception. If one percieves the truth, then it does exists. If one cannot perceive the truth, then it does not.

Damn philosophy. I wanna take that class again. Twas fun.

i would have to agree with chibiSF in that truth is a matter of perspective
i dont like to lie so if a situation comes up where i believe the closest thing to the absolute truth should be hidden i simply tell the truth in a way so as to intentionaly mislead with out making what i told false in any way

The truth is not always palatable, but I view it as a fact so it is not subject to perspective.

math is theories. These theories have been broven time and time again but there is nothing that is absolute. You can sit here and tell me that 2+2=4 and yes that it what we have known to be true but there is no way of completely proving that because we know nothing else. lets just say that someone else came up with a theory that 2+3=4 and that is what you are taught from kindergarden? then that is waht you would believe. you know what you are taught, that is all of which you know. most things that we know are only theories that can work and wont work, everything is a theory that builds on somethign else.
