1995 GA 2.3 to 2.4 engine swap

I know that everyone is going to say why do that. But seriously I called the junkyards looking for a 1995 vintage motor and everyone says that it's pretty old for finding a motor worth selling.

So what if I get a 2000 or 2001 2.4 from the bone yard and use the 2.3 intake and exaust manifolds. My 95 even has the cam mounted p.s. pump and the pickup location for the 4 speed auto tranny....even though I only have a three speed auto.

So if I basically do the longblock swap would it work?

I saw the 2.4 has extra passages for an egr but I don't need any of that for the 2.3 car

I'm not really looking for performance. I just want to find a lower milage engine that hasn't had the head redone 3 times already.

I think that it could be done but you may run into ECM issues as well as other wire harness issues. It really cant be a performance issue the difference between the two is not that great.

Hang in there...I'm sure you will get some more responses from other members that have some better knowledge on this than I do.

I'll watch the thread and if you don't get any more posts I'll private message a couple of the members who may not have checked out your thread and we will get their input.

Something else to think about doing a swap like that, when I was looking for a transmission for my '95 i found out that the 2.4's use a completely different transmission, they are not even close. Also, the hubs and cv shafts are different as well.

That 2.4 will not fit.I remember the 1995 2.3 only fits 1995 only and thats what the Hollander,an interchange book says.

the motor can fit, but your going to have to rewire everything, set the car up for OBDII if it isnt already (most likley not) and a whole lot of other things, you could probably buy a new car, or have a 2.3L rebuilt for the same price or less then swaping in a 2.4.

I talked to a friend last night, he said to do the swap you need a 96-98 complete car, maybe a rear end wreck, swap the entire engine compartment, wiring harness, dash harness, dash, body harness and tail lights- the 96-98's have separate turn signals and brake lights, then find a motor from a newer grand am, it will go right in, and the 96's and up are obdII

some of the 95 GAs where obdII or OBD"1.5". I dont think you would have to do anything to the tail lights, im sure you could figure something out, if not you would have to redo the whole back of the car to a 96-98 style (new truck, bumper, rear panels)
