'66 Molding

I bought new body molding for my '66 Beetle. I made sure to get what was made in Germany along with new clips and the rubber plugs. To much of my frustration, I am having the darndest time getting the molding to remain attatched to the body, particularly with the rear quarter panels and the driver's door. Seems that when the clips are pushed into the holes they pinch inward and don't spring back to hold the molding in place. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

Did you get the boots or seals that go into the body holes first? The clips seat into them.

Yes, that's what I was referring to as the rubber plugs.
