Black Smoke
i noticed black smoke coming from the exhaust and i was wondering if anyboday had any idea of what could be causing it. '97 SE 90K 2.4L.

Black smoke would indicate that your car is burning oil. You may have bad O-rings, or even possibly a bad head gasket. You could also be running really rich. Any other symptoms?

nope, thats about it. it doesnt do it very much. i just started it noticing it today when i put the pedal to the floor from a takeoff. other than that it runs fine.

Make sure yoou keep an eye on the oil and coolant. If you have a bad head gasket you will have issues develop with the coolant and oil.

Oil being burned usually causes a bluish smoke...it sounds like you're running rich, which means you've got too much fuel getting into the combustion chambers. I'd check for leaky fuel injector(s) and/or fuel pressure regulator.
