2001 4x4 2d Blazer intermittent starting

The problem is as follows. Sometimes (happens when cold or hot), when I try to start the engine nothing happens, I did notice that sometimes if I hold the key over for an extended period of time it will start. All gauges read properly, fully charged battery. And by not starting I mean it will not even try to turn over the engine.

I get absolutely no sound whatsoever, no clicking, no powerdrain nada. Before I take it to the dealership I thought I would check here for a response first. Bad Ignition Module? Switch? Known loose wiring problems that may cause this?

Thanks..

My 2000 4x4 blazer is doing the same thing. If I hold the key there, it doesn't help though. I sprayed some wd40 in the keyhole, hoping to clean the contacts. It seemed to work at first, but then nothing.

I would reseat the battery cables and make sure they are clean and tighht.

You might have a bad stater motor with a dead spot.

Thanks will try that. As far as the Starter Motor goes, wouldn't there be a noticable power load/drain if it was bad or had a bad spot?

Thanks

If I find any sort of solution out in my roamings I will let you know.

Naw, that is a dead short in the starter motor.

Make sure you battery is up to snuff.

The gauge on your dash does not show you if your battery is shot.

It did it really bad last night. Stuck for an hour or so. Then this morning, started first thing.
It does make the "plunk" sound when I turn the key.

Well as an update, I tightened all connections on the battery and had it checked out, and still the problem persists. Worst part is it's nothing thats consistant. And still when it happens absolutely no power drain occurs nor any sound. I.E. the tell tale Click, click of low battery power, or a power drain.

Is there any low level test I can perform to see if in fact its a bad spot on the starter? Or maybe I should try and bypass the starter Solenoid when this occurs to eliminate the Solenoid which would then point to the starter or its connections as the culprit?

Give me the old days of packing a File, matchbook and an extra Sparkplug to solve most problems.

It is probably the connections to your starter, I just did the fix today.

Go under the passenger side wheel well and clean and tighten all 3 terminals. It is easy to do, and that is ALWAYS my problem.

Let's not assume that is ALWAYS the fix.

Could be a lot of things.

Let's not get this guys hopes up.

One thing we need to know is if the battery has ever been charged up.

I didn't assume that is always the fix, I just think it's an easy thing to check.

The starter solenoid would at least click if there was any voltage, and since there is (because the other stuff turns on) it may very well be the connection on the small middle post on the starter, or the actual ignition switch in the column.
