New Car..Good Deal???

I'm buying my friends car tommorow and just wondering if anyone thinks it's a bad idea???? It's a 1993 Accord, primered white, full black widow body kit, New clutch, CF mirrors, 17' chrome LEXANI rims w/rubber, adjustable coilovers(not sure what brand), short shifter, Ractive intake, Redone upholestry black w/ orange suede in the door panels/orange gauges/shift boot/vents(it may sound ghey and ricey but it's actually pretty clean and nice), fiberglass wing(I think it's a terminator), CF tailights, and shaved side moldings......Now the bad part. It needs a drivers side glass(doesnt line up to the rail for window motor), needs new hood latch(doesnt close all the way), probly 4 or 5 crack throught out the body kit, some messed up body work (stress cracks), actually needs to be reprimered and thats all I think. I sold my Honda integra (one in my sig) and I'm giving him the $2000 I got for it, Then an extra $500 for the rims and mirrors. Do you think this was a smart move by me??? Anything i should look out for on these year accords??? Thanks for all your help.

Re: New Car..Good Deal???

Well it sounds like you are getting a decent aftermarket accord for pretty cheap. Remember mods don't up the value of the car, but if you think it is worth it, then go for it.

To get an idea of what the stock used car would resale for in your area, check out www.kbb.com

Now the 93 is a pretty solid year, and Hondas are pretty solid cars, but 200k on any car can cause issues
A few things to look out for (most of these occur at 100-200k):

1) Burnt oil...the piston rings and valve stem seals tend wear out and start leaking oil...you will be able to see blue smoke out of the exhaust under acceleration

2) Wornout motor mounts...the engine will vibrate excessively...so much so that you will probably feel it through the steering wheel at idle...this puts extra stress on the drivetrain, and causes less hp to make it to the ground.

3) Rust...if you are in a cold/wet climate, watch for rust...especially in the wheel wells.

4) Make sure there aren't any warning lights on the dash...these cars can have issues with teh Vehicle Speed Sensor and/or the Tranny Control Unit afterawhile...both of these problems will cause obvious issues and will cause the 'S' or 'd4' lights to blink. Make sure the gauges(tach/speedo) work well.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Other than those, just the obvious stuff. Make sure the suspension is in good shape, fluids are good, accelerates and brakes well, etc...

Oh, yeah, also check the trunk for water...sometimes the seals around the taillights start leaking and let water seep in which can destroy stuff in your trunk.

Re: New Car..Good Deal???

Well I checked out the car and there seems to be no oil leaks underneath the car, by the tranny, on the head leaking on the block(on my civic I blew a head gasket and thats what happened), I test drove it yesterday and it seemeed to drive pretty solid but only time will tell right? For number 3 i never seen a honda without rust LOL so yea theres a lil, and as for the water my civic had TONS OF IT, I would vaccum it all out of my trunk, then it rained and BOOM more water.....Sucked, but I like the car and I think it'll be a good choice. Thanks for looking out

Well, mine (1993) for example. And I don't take care of it. But I DO live in Florida.

Re: New Car..Good Deal???

One question though, when I start the car it makes a short high pitched squeeling noise for like 1/4 of a second...Got any ideas??
