Exclamation 96 ga se 3100

I have a 96 ga se 3100 with 4 spd auto. I was wondering if anybody knew if i could make it manual. The older z24 cav had a 3.1 5 spd standard tranny and maybe a couple other cars at that time. Has anyone heard of this being done? Can it work?

well, the '96 with 3.1 dsid have a 5-speed standard available.

As far as swapping it in, seems like an awful lot of work and problems that will show up.

I agree with Knife, all too often the problems that crop up after aren't worth all of the aggrivation that would go into the swap.

Re: 96 ga se 3100

It can and has been done, but man did the guys who did the swap learn a few novel words to describe their experience, lol.

You have to deal with clutch system to engine, put a pedal and linkage in, a shifter, and it's linkage, some switches for cruise control [if ya have cruise, and then all the wiring for that]. Then there are mounting issues for the clutch housing and tranny to engine and frame. Then there are some sensor issues with your ECM that won't read the auto. trans sensors that were there before, and then there is the re-program of the ECM for the differing rpm ranges that the engine will have, and that is just tip of the proverbial iceberg.

But, it can be done, lol. Sigh.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I really think i'll reconsider the swap now. As sick as it would be if done right, It would probably be wiser to just buy a 5 spd!

Yeh deffinately +1 to everyone. Converting to a stick is something everyone wants to do, but is quite possibly one of the biggest pain-in-the-ass job to do. There's just too much stuff involved. It'd be infinitely easier just to buy a car with a 5 speed.

It's notr like it was with the rear wheel drive cars of the past when all you really had to dobolt on the tranny and cut a hole in the floor and add a 3rd pedal to the floor.
