One Lap of America 2005. The LS is ready.

The sponsor, event, and number decals go on the car this Friday. Racing starts on Saturday.

Same car as last year, but upgraded with a new drivetrain and cooling. It also features 14" Brembo brakes up front. SVT had the car for a month tuning and working out bugs. The team feels confident that they have conquered last year's overheating issues while adding an additional 100hp and more accurate shifting.

Re: One Lap of America 2005. The LS is ready.

The race is still under way! They won't be done 'til next Saturday. So far, the LS is 22nd overall and second in class. 22nd overall doesn't sound that good 'til you consider that the field is filled with full-race vehicles; Supercharged Z06's, Porsches, STi's, EVO's, Ultima GTR, GT40, Daytona Coupes, etc.

There are lots of free pictures and videos at http://www.llsoc.com/V2R1/OLOA/default.asp

Re: One Lap of America 2005. The LS is ready.

Well, it's over. The boys are back to the mundane world today.

We finished second in class behind a modified, factory-sponsored SRT-8. We finished 23rd overall out of a field of 96. We are very pleased with the results!

Just to help put things in perspective...

We finished AHEAD of...
SIX Porsches
FIVE Corvettes
TWO Vipers
NINE BMW's (half of which were M's)
A Lotus
FIFTEEN Import Tuners (WRX, EVO, NEON/SRT-4, etc.)
FOUR dedicated racing cars (A Radical, a Super 7 clone, a GT40, and a Daytona Coupe)
SEVEN American Muscle (Camaro, T/A, Mustang, Impala SS)
ONE G35
ONE AMG C55
.
.
.
And ONE CTS-V

Ten entrants turned over 1 G in lateral accel. We missed that mark by only .06 G (less than 1mph on the 200' skid pad).
While we boast almost 450 horsepower, we also weigh nearly 3900 pounds. Many of the top cars have 600+hp and weigh 1000-1500 pounds LESS than us. (as an aside, we were running about 8 pounds boost, versus a more common 15+)
We were running 275mm tires. Most of the leaders had 300+mm (the SRT-8 had 295s).
We had NO rollcage or chassis stiffening.
We had a FULL interior and comfort for five...plus baggage. (The SRT-8 had a roll cage and room for two plus baggage...no back seat)

We have a LOT to be proud of.

Re: One Lap of America 2005. The LS is ready.

No, they're BBS forged wheels. Don't know the model number. These engineers are tricky and have lots of resources at their disposal, so it's hard to say where the center caps came from... It's possible that they are the same ones used in the factory wheels. 'Course, it's also possible that they were custom made.
