Illegal Immigration

Due to discussion on many immigration threads, I thought that those who had believed something needed to be done by the US government about our porous borders would appreciate the following copy of an email I received recently:

--

You may wish to go to www.reformus.org and sign the petition regarding
ending illegal immigration on our nation's southern border. It's
self-explanatory and takes about 45-60 seconds..

Please forward the website to anyone you know who might also be interested in doing something to protect our nation's future.

--

It does take less than a minute.

I don't like how it says to stop illegal immigration at our southern boarder. It needs to be illegal immigration regardless of entry point.

Re: Illegal Immigration

True and I agree. (I missed that distinction when I saw it) But the gov't will cry "poor" and say that not all places can be covered at once, so will start at the busiest.

Re: Illegal Immigration

That fact that it does only mention the southern boarder is poor wording on there part, yet I think it's at least a step in the right direction

I didn't mean to nit pick to much. The boarders need to be secured and the southern one happens to be closer to grand central then the others so it should get most of the focus.

NJ is closer to GCT. They should secure the Hudson River crossings first...

Re: Illegal Immigration

Signing is easy. Coming up with the money to support such an enormous undertaking is a bit more complicated...

I've heard rumor that the military wants to send troops home from Iraq but doesn't know what to do with them and doesn't want to pay them to sit around when they get back- if this is true, we've just killed two birds with one stone. Money is still a question, but with money currently being spent on research for things like shooting pigs on cocaine with tasers vs shooting non-coked pigs with tasers(no, I didn't make that up!), I think there is PLENTY of money out there. I remember hearing about a study, government funded, that supposedly proved that adding a 50cent tax to a six-pack of cheap beer would lower STD's by 40% among people aged 16-19. That was a few years ago, but money is being spent on that crap all the time. Oh yes, there is money.

On a side note, I just heard that in the last month, 335 drug mules have been arrested at the border in the area where the Minutemen are. I guess that must be one of those jobs Americans don't want.

Re: Illegal Immigration

just speaking of californians. if so many people are against illegal immigration at the border, i wonder why so many pro ban illegal immigration supporters still buy their vegetables from Food 4 Less, Albertsons, and Stater Bros? just a curious question.

anyone in the military ever patrolled the us/mexican border? it is alot of area to cover. hot and miserable. bill or no bill, if America really wants to go through the undertakings of really stopping the dedication and motivation of these immigrants crossing the border, its gonna take alot of manpower to do it. alot of $$$$. As a soldier patrolling the border of us/mexico and working along with the border patrol, we knew more illegals came through than what we caught. with the few million dollars that fund the efforts to patrol the US/mexican border vs. the Juarez drug cartel's billions of dollars in mexico used to bring there drugs into the states............i dont think america stands a chance at effectively interdicting at the border. just comparing resources is enough for me. shit, the Juarez cartel has enough money to wage a war small scale war.

and if you see what comes across that border, you surely will close the gates.

Yeah i remember reading about some Columbian cartel that was caught trying to buy a Nuclear Submarine from the Russian black market. They were going to pay something like $600 million USD for it, so they got enough money, yup!
