I just bought some 17" wheel's (17x7.5) for my '04 2x4 V8 Silverado. I was looking at BF Goodrich tires. I figured I'd get a 265/70R17 for my truck. Will a lift kit be needed or will these fit comfortably?
Note: I may take them in the desert on some minor trails/hills, so I need some room to work with. |

Should fit perfectly. WE have 265/75/16's on my dad's Silverado and those are stock, same size as the 265/70/17's. What's the offset on the wheels though?

Edit: Also, I understand our tires would be the same size, but your dad's wheel is an inch smaller. Should this make a difference? |

Re: Will These Tires Fit?
the wheel size doesn't make a difference. When he says the tires are the same size he's refering to the overall diameter. The 75 and 70 numbers in the tires refer to the sidewall ratio. Your ratio will be a little bit less which account for the inch difference in the tire size. The tires will be the same width though(265 is the milimeters of tread on the tire). Offset is the distance from the back of the rim to the plate that the lugs bolt up to. This causes the wheel to sit further in or stick further out.

I'm pretty sure I know my tires and wheels buddy. My reason for asking what the offset was is because it might stick out further, these wheels are also half an inch wider than stock GM wheels. Your wheels will be the exact same size as the 265's on my dad's, you'll just have a half inch shorter sidewall. Due to the wider rim your tire's contact patch could be wider because the sidewalls will be spread out a little more at the bead. Going up to a 17 inch rim shouldn't make any difference compared to a 16 inch rim so just mount em and go. I've seen people stick 285/75's on their stock Silverado's and have no rubbing issues at all so IF you wanted to go bigger that's always possible. I wouldn't go much taller, and depending on offset you could always go 305/70 but you might rub there a little bit being that wide.

Re: Will These Tires Fit?
Thanks to the both of you. By the way, do you know what size of tires come on the standard 17" of the 4x4/Z71 Silverado or the Avalanche? The 265's are a little pricey and maybe the standard 17" tires are a little smaller and a little cheaper. Anyone know?

Re: Will These Tires Fit?
I think the standard for the Z71 is the 265's. On the 4x4 model I think 245's come standard. Anyhow... as for the lift, I wouldnt think you'd have to have one as long as you don't go any bigger than a 265.
Oh..and I know more than anyone about tires/wheels...attack me if you must!!! lol Just KIDDIN!

Re: Will These Tires Fit?
I think the 265's should be alright.....even on a 2wd....my Z71 came from the dealer with 285/75/16....with the torsion bars all the way down and I had ZERO rubbing problems......I doubt that most 2wd's could fit 285's stock without rubbing......the 265's shouldn't be any problem though....I've got 37/13.50/17 tires coming in this week....so I may need to crank my T-bars just a wee bit..........
