626 Transmission issues "HELP"

I have a transmission issue it only leaks if I drive a long distance. If i stay local or drive up the street and check things everything is fine.

what could the problem be?
anyone else have this problem?

your problem

your problem = Ford/Mazda screwed up when sizing the automatic tansmission fluid cooler

The cooler (which is part of the radiator) is undersized so the transmission keeps getting hotter the longer you drive. The only solution is an external transmission cooler. You've probably already done damage to your transmission, but if you have the V6 you might be OK if you install the cooler ASAP. The 4-cylinder auto. trannys are Ford designed and generally fail long before 100k miles.

to clarify my response more specifically...

At some point your transmission probably overheated and warped some seals. When you drive for long distances your tranny heats back up, components expand at different rates, causing leaks. Install an external cooler, pinpoint the leak and tighten the seal bolts.
