Re: JDM car names

Because English is the main language in the world, besides, I don't think an american would want to buy a car named "Tkagishamana" and I think japanese people like the exotisism of names like Fairlady and Skyline, makes them feel special.

i was kind of thinking about the same kind of subject, except my version is why are all these new cars getting numbers and letters for names? Why not just think up some spiffy name like Soltice and Cobalt. instead there's thing like S40's, 350Z, SC430 and so on and so on. I'm sorry but if i'm making a new car, itd have to have a badass name, not just some numbers and letters

Re: JDM car names

Be cause they are running out of names that work, I mean there's alot of names left, but not good ones, the Ford Octopus or the Honda Refridgerator just wouldn't work.

^^^^ whahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahaha
omy god thats hilarious. Yea i kind of like the number/letter combo to be honest. I remember when i was a young lad (like 10). I used to think that the "sx" meant super cross. lol, like it was some bad ass sports car term. Doesnt silvia stand for something? I forget all this jdm stuff.

Re: JDM car names

I love the way that in Japan they refer to cars by their chassis number, it's so much simpler.

i don't think it'd be THAT hard to come up with some original names. i could come up with a few, but then again i eat ribs with one hand because i'm too lazy to clean the stickiness of both my big ol paws.

Re: JDM car names

ye some names are becoming stupid. i like the # letter combo. i guess most names have meaning behind them i just would think that they would have japanese names for the cars that never get imported over here

the original question

ya i think its because giving the cars english names makes them sound exotic to japanese people
i always felt that the companies were just getting lazy giving their cars names based on engine size and what not

yes refering to cars by chassis code would make it alot simpler for us, but what about the ricers they would get all confused and write something like BNR34 on the side of their civics

Re: JDM car names

chassis codes are uber hot.

Re: JDM car names

I know that way back in the day when Japan start exporting cars, they wanted to mimic the Europeans in the number stuff. That is why most Acuras, Ifiniti, Lexus are numbers instead of names. Most of those cars are more luxurious here than Japan, ie the G20. The primera wasnt as nice and plush as the G20. I had the great pleasure of visiting Japan (2 years) and when I was there I learned a lot about the car names and stuff and that Nissan is the car of choice for most "average joe" tuners.

i think it has a lot to do witht he fact that the japanese manufacturers are smart enough to know that us westerners wouldnt buy cars with japanese names. so they would be missing out on a huge market segment and millions of dollars. its all about the chedda baby!!!
