turn signals not working

My 92 grand prix gtp turn signals arn't working. Hazzards work fine. I see on the board that someone else had this problem. Is this common on these cars? Is it the turn switch on the steering colum?

Thumbs up Re: turn signals not working

my 95 grand prix se gave out last summer..did the same as yours--hazards work but no turn etc.--anyhow it turned out to be the turn signal switch inside the steering column..the tabs that hold the unit in place are made of plastic and wear out...springs inside force upwards equals no contact means no electricity flow no turn signal..so being slightly smart i went to junkyard got another one after much hard work and it too had same issue!!!! me and cars are a battle from hell! you only find this out after assembly! so i pulled out a wire solder melter thingy and heated up the tangs melting/pushing plastic downwards to make unit contact once more..so good luck....brand new ones i believe cost big bucks look online at pontiac parts etc.

I had the same problem with my '96. What I did was I removed the steering wheel and airbag coil (in pieces ;-)) Sprayed Contact Cleaner down onto every bit of copper I could see while working the level up and down. After about 8 or 9 minutes of that they worked perfectly and ever since...for the past 4 months.

You should be able to get some of that cleaner from a Lowes or Home Depot in the wiring section. And watch it because it is flammable but it evaporates VERY quickly.
