New Amp

Hear are pics from my amp install last friday-saturday. its all wired to my stock 1987 Cassette deck. im getting some new 6x9's in late this week or early next week. its a blitz audio BZA-2260. 500Wx2 ch supposedly. its hooked up to stock speakers right now. that will change soon though. please refrain from saying how crappy it is. its all i can afford right now cuz i got to pay off teh rest of the car and the 500$ i owe my parents for my timing chain replacement. so i cant get a full on system. sucks but hey, thats life.

Definitely a "supposedly". Actual power output probably isn't even 250rms x 2....prolly more in the realm of 125rms x 2 or so....very cheaply built, unreliable amps. This is presented just as information, NOT criticism. peace

Re: New Amp

Looks like a good install to me... almost exactly the same as mine. My amp's about the same quality level too . Are you going to get a sub to go with it? Or is it just going to power the 6x9s? Oh, and what car is this going in? I didn't see a full picture of it.

this was basically me hating stock sound, i wanted something better, this isnt much better but it is an upgrade.
im looking at getting REXXX12s [which i know about thx to you all] this summer, maybe atlas 12s. not sure what amp but ill make a thread about it when i get the money.

Re: New Amp

That's a good first car. I'm sure you'll take good care of it

I hate it when kids get BMWs and M-Benzs for their 16th birthdays from their rich daddies. No offence if that's any of you out there. I've earned everything I've ever owned, and gifts that are worth more than the tuition of the college they're going to are rediculous. Ok, ranting done for today

Re: New Amp

by non subwoofer, do you mean dual or quad channel?

I'm wondering too... I'd like to find a new sub amp and a 2 or 4 channel for my speakers.

Re: New Amp

Anything meant to power the regular speakers, like ant speaker under 8", but why not include subs as a seperate catagory.. What are good brands for both?

Re: New Amp

look at Profile (ask nsgm13) and Pheonix Gold (from personal experence, great, reliable amps), check e-bay for good prices on both for slighly more you can buy from an authroized dealer.

Re: New Amp

You seem to think that amps can only do speakers or subs, but not both...

The only amps that are designed specifically for subs are the single channel "mono-block" amps, and are generally $200+ for the cheap ones.

The 2-channel and 4-channel amps that you see everywhere can almost always be bridged for single channel use with their built in low pass filter (blocks all frequencies above a given value), used with just midrange speakers with the highpass filter (blocks all frequencies below a given value), or used with both when set in full range with a passive crossover (this is called Tri-mode Operation, and you use a high pass filter on the speakers and a low pass filter on the sub to keep the appropriate frequencies going to the different speakers). In your searchs, remember to look just at the RMS power ratings, not the "max" values. You also want to try to match the sub's RMS rating with the amp's, or get an amp that's MORE powerful than the sub. This is a good rule of thumb for someone beginning in this hobby.

Re: New Amp

The audiophiles at the 3000GT board I also frequent said that the profile amps aren't great quality even at the cheep prices they go for, they look like great cheep amps to me but they reccomemded a soundstream picasso, any thoughts?

The THD of the Profile 440 is .07% @RMS and the THD of Soundstream is .02% @RMS, what exactally does this mean?

Re: New Amp

THD is total harmonic distortion. i dont know about profile so ask NSGM13.
basically a THD rating below 3% is almost impossible to detect when playing music and barely able to be detected when played with tones....even 6% is hard to pick up wiht music...

Re: New Amp

So is an amp an amp or do different amps make things sound different in ways besides the obvious amplatude factor?

Re: New Amp

some cheap amps will make things sound flat, my friend pick up some off brand amp on ebay, it boasted a 500W rms, 2ch. thing barly works, and over heats like a bitch, and sounds horrible. it was shipped in an audiobahn box, its really sad. atleast mine came with a manual.

get something good, you wont regret it. a lil more investment into you intiail amp purchase will avoid having to spend more money on one later, like im going to have to.
