Sunroof working intermittently

I have a 2001 Golf GLS. The sunroof works occasionally. When it does not work, it seems that it gets no electrical power, there is no sound. I changed my battery, which was very weak, and it started working again for 2 days but then it stopped. I checked the fuse and they seem fine. I don't really want to pay $80/hr to get it checked by my dealer if it is something simple to fix. Any idea about what could be going on?
