Noise when turning left

Anybody have any idea what would be causing a noise to be coming from what seems to be the steering column when I turn the wheel to the left? It NEVER does it to the right but only to the left. It's a 1999 Silverado Z71 extended cab 4x4. Thanks

If it is kind of like a humming vibration that can be felt in the steering wheerl as well , mine does it as well but not all the time. It is not the clunk from the shaft at least mine is not , i have no clunking at all , just this vibratation that can be felt and heard. I wonder if it is the pos steering pumps on there things.............

That's about what it sounds/feels like. It does not seem to be causing a problem with the exception of the irritating sound. Seems like I saw a posting here some time back about someone else having the problem but I was not able to locate it. It's just recently started it in the last 6 months.

yeah, I'm beginning to think my ps pump is going,....it makes the belt squeak when the truck is hot and I make sharp enough left turns at lower speeds. I've checked th fluid and it appears ok.

I have the exact same problem on my 2000 Silverado, I'm taking it to the dealership where I got it tomorrow to have it fixed. They said it's the steering gearbox ?

Let me know what it's cost and what they had to do.

Just picked up my truck at the dealership, they replaced the gearbox and it's nice and quiet now. It would have costed $613 (labor and parts) but they didn't charge me 'cause it did it the day I bought it there.

$613 is suprisingly a lot less than I would have thought the dealership would have charged you to change out the gearbox

I appreciate the info. I think for 613.00 I will deal with it a little longer. This truck has done well though....It's a 99 and has 142k miles and has never had anything done to it other than the transmission has been replaced. I guess I can't argue to much about it! Thanks again.
