Re: Need help finding subs

budget, MTX, for the most part sub wise, is garbage for SQ and only their top end stuff gets loud...post a budget and you will be hooked up, otherwise, i think JC whitney sells MTX thunder series...

OK guys, just because it's not a RE or other POS thing you like doesn't give you the right to babble without give any real answers to their question.

Mick, the only thing I could tell you is to hit the Ebay scene.

The same goes for you... you diss products you have never even heard, how mature and business like is that?!

But yeah, check out Mitek Outlet or Ebay...7000series isn't around anymore.

the jack hammer is like RE's XMX or Adires Parthenon....serves no purpose in an everyday application....

Re: Need help finding subs

burps are all SPL drivers are good for... making lots of noise at a single frequency. The XXX series is RE's solution for combining a driver that can get really loud, and still sound really good over a wide frequency range. The MT series is their burp sub, and built to handle extreme amounts of power. They can have probably as much amperage going through them as most people's amps draw.... but at a much higher voltage. Remember the old power equation: Power = voltage x amperage. So yeah... if you draw 40 amps at 12 volts into your amp, it puts out around 2 - 10 amps at 100-200 volts in an alternating current. At least, that's my guess as to why we can use 10-12 gauge wire to wire even the most powerful subs when the amps have 1/0 gauge. Please tell me if I'm wrong ....

I have no idea what you just said.

Re: Need help finding subs

hahahaha... I guess I've been wondering for a while what the voltage is on a speaker line. I know it's constantly changing for regular music, but for a single note (say a 120 db tone at 40 Hz) what would a voltmeter read?

It's the difference in wire sizes I'm trying to explain, I guess.

Re: Need help finding subs

uhh...120dB@40Hz doenst say anything. what box the driver is in and how efficent the driver is along with what impeadence the driver is at will all determin how much voltage it takes to make 120dB@40Hz.
but for a true 4ohm impeadence 400w takes 40 volts which will flow 10 amps resulting in 400w....
2ohm will be 28.3v which will flow 7a resulting in 400w
1ohm takes 20v which will flow 5a resulting in 400w...

oh ya
V= sqrt(P*R)
V=P/A
V=R*A

Re: Need help finding subs

I guess that works. Cool. My little nonsense above doesn't make any sense, you're right. :

I see why RE makes their XXXs with 2 ohm and 1 ohm coils and MTs with .7 Ohm and 1.4 ohm coils.

Re: Need help finding subs

well actually there is alot of controversy (or was) over high voltage high impeadence was better or low voltage low impeadence was better. really it doesnt matter BUT higher voltage will result in less volume drop from the resistance the speaker wire offers. but unless the voltage drop is enough to loose 1dB it doesnt matter. really low voltage low impeadence is better IMO because todays car amps are actually stable at 1ohm or even 0.5ohm impeadences...and if you have a single 8ohm driver you only get 25% of the power you COULD be getting.
