help ASAP!! lean or rich?

k i took my car for a hard drive and hear latly the digital A/F gauge i have has been reading 1.01-1.03 at WOT. which is rich, but after the run i poped the hood and the exhaust manifold and 02 housing where glowing red!! which means lean right, the tem gauge in the car is in the middle all the time but i noticed the top radiator hose getting melted. after a hard run you can hear the radiator fluid boiling, but my pocket logger says 199 deg. anybody have the same problem or any in put?
thanks
tyler

Re: help ASAP!! lean or rich?

Its normal to see the manifold glow at night after some hard running when perfectly tuned. Being excessively rich can also make it worse since the excess fuel is still burning in the manifold. I dont trust narrow band O2 sensors as far as I can throw them, but being over 1 volt almost always means that you are pig rig. Might be worth looking into.

Re: help ASAP!! lean or rich?

You must have missed the part where I said a glowing manifold at night after hard driving is normal...

Over 1 volt is probably rich. Raising boost does NOT lean out AFR unless you run out of pump or injector.

Re: help ASAP!! lean or rich?

Run at stock fuel pressure, its what the ECU is assuming it will be. Poor fuel economy is usually a bad O2 sensor, wether or not it throws a DTC.

Re: help ASAP!! lean or rich?

could the o2 sensor be bad and still give a reading on a digital gauge? i know that the sensor has been covered in oil because of the turbo seals on the old turbo, cant be good. i bought a new sensor from autozone bosch and it was too short and the plug was diffrent, i dont have the box so they wont take it back. they said thats all they have in there computer for it. i guess im going to have to buy a new and ask for on for an eclipse

Re: help ASAP!! lean or rich?

Buy an OEM sensor, it's plug & play.

Re: help ASAP!! lean or rich?

I dont bother with autoparts stores for this reason. Better to buy O2 sensors at the dealer. Same goes for most other sensors and parts that are relatively important.
