Re: remove ventshades

HAHA! It's funny you ask this... I just got my truck a month ago and mine also had ventshades on front and back windows. All you gotta do to get em off is pull... the double sided tape that holds them on is a different story. I used a lot of Goo Gone and a lot of elbow grease to get the tape off. The plastic shades are easy to remove tho, just pull; it's only tape holding them on.

Re: remove ventshades

If your vehicle is like mine, the ventshades indicate one thing: a smoker used to own your truck! I have since (after removing the ventshades) been combating the faint smoke odor in my truck. You could see where there had been some ashes around the windows in my truck, but strangely enough, the ashtray had never been used...

Re: remove ventshades

Yeah I've been trying to get that Smokers smell out of my truck for a while now too. I think this summer I might do the wet wash and then toss in some baking soda to dry it up then a few days later vacuum it out. Apparently, that works...

As for the Vent shades. Perhaps a heat gun on LOW as you take the VentShade off may help to pull some of the adhesive off. The other thought is to email 3M first before you do so. They may be able to suggest a way to remove them easier or perhaps even the Ventshade company....

Just my ..

Re: remove ventshades

mine are just about comming off.... i put them on last spring, they were fine all last summer, an now that we had a few hot days here the rear shades are really loose. I want to take off the rear ones because they are ugly, and replace the fronts with some "in chanel" shades.

Re: remove ventshades

I'd get rid of my Bugflector II off of my hood, also, but some idiot installed it wrong and it has rubbed a lot of paint off my hood.

Hey Nigel, my truck looks exactly like yours, same color and everything...I ended up breaking the ventshades off so now I got the back part to get off...I've heard everything from using a blow dryer to using goo gone or tar remover...

Re: remove ventshades

yea, i used a blow dryer and goo-gone to take off all my badges...they were a bitch, ALOT of elbow grease. I dont think these window shades will take that long. Like I said, the tape is starting to come off already anyway.

As an ex-smoker, I can tell you the BEST thing to get the smell out is
Clorox Freshcare : http://freshcare.com/

Febreeze ain't got nothin' on this stuff.

In my last truck, I'd smoke it it and when I got out, I'd immediately spray this inside. Later, when the wife and I got in to go somewhere she'd not have a clue that I'd been smoking in it. And she's the type that'd say something about it.

Get the spray bottle. Spray it on the carpet and anywhere else that has the smell. I didn't have any problems with any discoloration, but you may want to spay under the back seat (or somewhere just as un-noticable) as a test first.

As for getting double-sided tape off. When I took the badges off my truck, I used my 1400psi pressure washer to get the tape off. Anyone taking the ventshades off might consider doing so and going to a carwash. Not sure of the psi on the sprayers, but its worth a shot.

Yeah you know what sucks. I believe I contacted these guys and it isn't available in Canada yet, though I haven't looked personally. Maybe I'll troll through the local drugstore tonight to see if I can find it.

Thanks for the tip.

Re: remove ventshades

You know, what I think is funny is that people like me and vince REALLY don't want the ventshades on our trucks, but others REALLY do want them.

Re: remove ventshades

They come in handy for smokers who don't use ashtrays too.
