blink codes - older GM cars

Does anyone know up to what year you can read blink codes by shorting pins A and B at the ALDL connector? I remember doing this on older GM cars, but I don't think it worked on my 94 Grand Am.

Another question: Does the ECM on a 1990 Olds 98 store sporadic engine codes and intermittent misfire codes?

You definetly can read the codes on that model. My 91" 98 turns over but won't run, but doesn't show any problem codes. It died while driving, but nothing showed up except the normal 12 code.Don't know about the sporadic codes tho, sorry. gggman

Varies by car but around 95-96 was the cut of period. If your car has OBD1, you can us the trick. I"m not sure what codes you're specifically looking for on the '90 Olds but the jumper trick will work.
