what are the pro's and con's to a cold air intake for a 04 silverado??

As the subjesct line said pro's con's for a cold air intake. Will your gas milage get worse or better. Do they really give you that much horse power. Does your right foot get heavier........

So they say you will get improved gas mileage along with some extra horsepower, Id have to agree on that. The more air coming in means the more power.

And more power would mean you'd push the pedal less, giving you better gas mileage

it will definetly give you better mileage, but that is if you drive normally and dont have a heavy foot like me. I enjoy the extra hp

Re: what are the pro's and con's to a cold air intake for a 04 silverado??

Some of this is true, some a little mislead!! Mileage doesnt increase you just hit the pedal not as hard, you can do the exact same thing now and increase your gas mileage without changing to cold air!! As a matter of fact the colder the air is the LESS MILEAGE you get!!!! Hot air gives better gas mileage and cold air gives more power!!! (If you need more explanition as to why then id be happy explain)Hope that helps out a little. Oh and there are no cons to it!

No, more power means you would have to push the pedal less to get the same output on the engine, which would give you more mileage because your driving habit would (could) change.

NO!!! MORE POWER MEANS YOUR VEHCILE EFFICIENTLY USES THE AIR, FUEL, SPARK AND BURNS IT QUICKLY AND IMMEDIATELY THEREFOR YOU LOSE MILEAGE!!! ONLY CASE WHERE THIS ISNT ALWAYS TRUE IS IN FORCED INDUCTION(TURBO, SUPERCHARGER) ITS BEEN PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN!!!!! TURBOS AND CHARGERS CREATE FRICTION IN THE AIR CAUSING IT TO HEAT UP!!! THE HEAT INCREASES MILEAGE NOT POWER!!!! THE COLD AIR INCREASES POWER NOT MILEAGE!!!! THE MORE COLD AIR YOU HAVE, THE MORE O2 MOLECULES THERE ARE, THE MORE O2 MOLECULES YOU HAVE THE MORE SPARK AND GAS YOU NEED TO BURN IT EFFICIENTLY!!!! OTHERWISE TOO MUCH O2 NOT ENOUGH GAS OR SPARK WILL CREATE KR(KNOCK RETARD) BECAUSE YOU RUN TOO LEAN, HENCE TOO MUCH O2!!!! YOUR MAS AIRFLOW SENSOR TELLS THE ECU THAT THERE IS MORE VOLUME OF O2 BECAUSE COLD AIR NATURALLY CARRIES MORE O2, AND THEN TELLS THE ECU TO OPEN THE INJECTORS MORE TO COMPINSATE FOR THE ADDED O2!!! THEREFOR YOU LOSE GAS MILEAGE!!!

IF WHAT YOU WERE SAYING WAS TRUE, "More power means you hit the pedal less, and get more mileage" THEN EVERY CAR MAKER IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE BEST GAS MILEAGE CAR WOULD MAKE HIGH OUTPUT MOTORS IN EVERY VEHICLE!! DO YOU THINK THE VIPER GETS GOOD GAS MILEAGE!!??, HOW BOUT THE SS SILVERADO, HOW BOUT THE DENALI, CADILLAC ESCALADE, THE 8.1L SILVERAD WITH 325HP AND 450 FT TRQ!!! WHY IS IT THAT NONE OF THESE VEHICLES WITH ALL THE POWER THEY HAVE, GET GOOD GAS MILEAGE!!! ITS CAUSE IT TAKES MORE O2, GAS, AND SPARK TO MAKE AN ENGINE PERFORM LIKE THAT!!!

You lose mileage IF you compare it to having the throttle open the same amount while running it stock. What I am saying is that the truck will make more power with the throttle open less, which will increase the gas mileage if you don't drive like a bat out of hell.

I wasnt trying to jump down your throat i was just telling you what I've researched in the last 2 years since im doing a 383 CI motor with a GTS76 turbo @21psi and 150 wet shot of N2o. I never meant to belittle your intelligance buy staing what i said!! I just know that I used to think the same way you did! More power meant less gas pedal, which in turn meant less use of gas!! I researched over and over again to find the best possible combo for what i wanted to acomplish (1000+rwhp truck that is still a daily driver) In my research through many people with degrees in this field...this is what I've learned! Once again I didnt mean to hurt any feelings and if i did I appoligize for it!!
