Cat Separated From Turbo

The welds on the cat’s end bracket broke & it’s now separated from the turbo. My usual shop says the only way to fix this is to replace the entire cat, but the dealership said I might be able to get someone to weld it back together.

Has anyone seen this happen before or have any other suggestions on what to do?

I’d really prefer to not to have to blow $800 on a new cat.

There is a federally mandated warranty of 80000 miles on the cat regardless of the factory warranty.
