differential yoke fit
hi
i pulled the differental out of a 1980 malibu, it wasnt stock it is a 3.42 posi unit, 10 bolt. and i wanted to intall it into my 1870 nova which has a stock 3.08 10 bolt rear end. unfortunately when i tried to do it the yoke that fits over the pinion gear has a different spline. and when i tried the other yoke from the malibu it did not fit the differential housing. does anyone know what i need to do to make these parts fit? thanks keith |

Re: differential yoke fit
You will find the housing from the G-body does NOT fit the X-body. The spring perches must be removed, as well as the control arm mounts, and the spring perches for the leaf spring rear attached. This is NOT a job for a backyard welder. Keeping the housing straight during the welding process is no small task. Locating the perches uis also an "exact" operation, to keep everything square.
As available as Camaro/Nova rears are, don't waste a lot of time and money on that 7.5" POS, anyway. It won't take any serious power. A "bolt-in" Nova rear should be as close as your local "advertiser" paper. |
