New stereo system installed.

I finally got off my lazy butt and took my speakers out of my beloved Honda and got them into my saturn.

I have 2x12" Alphasonik subs in the trunk, facing the back seat. Powered by a really shitty Legacy 500 watt amp. (can't afford anything better at the moment.

Sony X-Plod 3 way speakers all around, and the sony x-plod head unit.

I'll get pictures up in the morning.

Nice, glad to see you got it up and runnin,
See you used the Sony head unit, I would have too, I like that tiltin face,

The 500 Watt amp should be more than enough if you wire up a crossover before it, or gettin a seperate amp for the mids or subs...

Bet it sounds good, but I'd still outbump you

Re: New stereo system installed.

it doesn't even bump much at all. But it sounds REALLLY good.

But as for bumping. 500 watts trying to power 2 500 watt subs doesn't do too much justice.

Again, a crossover will dramatically increase the bumping,

Are you sure there is not an ATT button that is engages on the head unit, mine has a "loud" button that I didn't find till the second car it was in, (It wasn't its own button on mine, it was holding down the BND button), or make sure the low pass/filter isn't on on the amp, if it has gain turn it up, and fold down your back seats when you're listenin (obvious)

But yeah as mentioned before, Im powering mine with a 250 Watt (I think, I didn't buy it but looked up the model number) and a crossover, and mine hits hard enough I HAVE TO turn it down, its like rediculously loud even with the equilizer on the head unit zeroed out...Plus the amp I got (Clairion) has a built in crossover, so really there are two on the system,

Man I love my system, wouldn't dream of dropping it for the weight reduction, I'll strip everything else and still have the 75 lbs. Box and amp + crossover in there...

Try facing the subs backward and checking to make sure the subs are phased correctly ... also what is the RMS of the amp? Are you in mono to the subs and what are the resistance of the subs? Just trying to think of things that may help you bump a little more.

Seriously? Most of the time I see that facing the subs to the rear of the car makes the best performance. Now, if your ports(if you have them) are pointing in another direction, that will make a difference too.

swapped them out today before you posted to test, (Its a sealed box, no ports)

They seemed to hit deeper, but not as clearly, Makes sense they are reverberating off the trunk walls making it the equivilent of a larger box, but also now echoing to you inside this box, making it not as clear/crisp/hard of notes. Keep in mind with the seats down the subs are facing me and only about a foot and a half behind me,

I think I'm going to switch mine back to facing the front, either way still enough to shake my eyeballs and mirrors

Re: New stereo system installed.

Well, there are a lot of things to consider when putting a system together. First, never use premade boxes. It is always better to have a custom one made. You have to build the right enclosure for the right subs for the right vehicle. If you mess any of that up, your screwed.

That being said and you stating that it sounds crappy with them pointing to the rear makes me think you have the wrong box for your setup.
