fuel pump question? please help

oaky so im pretty sure my fuel pump is about to crap out on me. i can get ahold of one that came out of a v8 really cheap. the only problem is that i have a V6. i checked the part numbers and found that they are not the same part. so my question for everyone out there is, can i put the v8 pump inot my car and have it run right. i figure i will have to splice the wires cause i dont think the connection is the same, but i dont know if the car will run correctly. im thinking its going to give the engine more gas while the same amount of air is coming in and give me problems that way. i hope not though cause i really dont have the money to shell out for a new pump. if anyone can help me that would be great. thanks
