i need some help. i have an 02 wrx with turbo back exhaust, headers, uppipe, intake, bov, and all. but when i Accelerate, it seems like the engine cuts off then cuts on.. and so on. it gets really annoying because it slings you back and forth. it seems like it mostly does it when i have around a quarter tank or lower... i dont really know what it is... it just cuts off at full throttle when Accelerating. i need all the advice or ideas you guys got. thanks

Might try checking to see if any spark plug wires have come loose. Or if you have a good number of miles the plugs or wires might need replaced.

Re: cuts off when accelerating!? why?
Keep track of the level in the fuel takn when it happens. If the level that it happens at goes up, you may have a fuel pump going bad.

Re: cuts off when accelerating!? why?
It's most likely a bad fuel pump. I've got the same situation going on with mine now (also an '02). I let the tank run all the way to empty on my way home the other day and stopped to full up for gas before letting it sit for a while. The fuel pump is in the gas tank on this model (can't speak for the rest but I would imagine a similar system if anyone can confirm). When you let the gas run to low the pump doesn't have any way to dissipate heat (that's why it's submerged in the gas tank) so it can burn itself up when the fuel gets too low.
We actually had the same thing happen with our water well at my house a couple months ago. Our water table dropped and we didn't know about it so our pump burned up trying to suck up the last bit of water. $3000 later we had to drill our well deeper and get a new pump. If you're up for the challenge there is actually an access panel under the back seat to get to the pump assembly, and PerrinPerformace.com sells a nice pump for $130 http://www.perrinperformance.com/pro...ory=7&model=18 Also check out my post with links to the factory service manuals: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=752257

Re: cuts off when accelerating!? why?
This thread is over two years old - if the original poster still has this problem with his car there's a much larger issue.
In future, look at the date on the thread before posting!
