my 2001 malibu was making some strange scraping noises during turns. i had the wheels off and was looking around for problems when i noticed the brake pads where worn down to the metal i feel like a dumbass but new pads fixed the scraping noise

But make sure the pads were evenly wore down - or else you'll be back at it in a few months.
