question about 'Fire radio loc
OK...My 'fire is gone,
but can I take the stock radio that was in it and install it in another car...AND will the theft lock go on when I install it...(the other car is an olds..) Has anyone ever tried this? If so let me know cuz I dont wanna mess up the other cars system or anything like that...and I definitely dont wanna trip the loc on the radio itself..I dont want to have to deal with a dealership right now...Otherwise its off to the junkers so that I can have a CD player in the other car... (getting tired of using my portable cd player!!)

Re: question about 'Fire radio loc
I've never tried it, but both are GM products so as long as the radio will accept the wiring harness on the Olds I'd say you're good to go. Otherwise you'll need to get the wiring harness off the 'fire, remove the one on the Olds, and do some rewiring. As for the theft-lock, it is activated whenever power is removed from the radio. Did you notice the light flashing on the radio when key was off while the radio was still in the 'fire? If not the lock was probably disabled and you won't have to worry about it (I had mine disabled so I never had to worry about it, someone would've still stolen it with it active.) I've had an aftermarket radio in my Sunfire for about 3-4 years now, but my old radio is in my wife's GrandAm and I haven't messed with it in a while. If I'm wrong someone correct me...

My 'fire got wrote off 2 days ago.. (it had a fight with a pole at 80k and the pole won....
go figure..lol)but when I had the deck in it the light never flashed so I am assuming that the lock is disabled. When I started the car, the theft lock flashed on the dash, and eventually went off with the rest of the cluster but it never flashed on the radio at all.I had an aftermarket in there when it got totalled, and I'm saving the aftermarket for my next car, but I want to put the stock deck into the Olds so that when I use that car I can still play my CD's. I still have the wiring diagram for what wire is which on the 'fire so I am assuming if I get the wiring diagram for the Olds I can put it in...hopefully they all match up... If I ever get the mess with my insurance straightened out this week I might just try putting it in this weekend unless I get told otherwise...

Re: question about 'Fire radio loc
if you never set a passcode, then it SHOULD never lock, but it may not work with the Olds. Why, I don't know, but GM likes to play like that. Oh and, sorry for your loss, it's a shame to lose another sunfire.
