Question Exhaust Suggestions..

I want to get exhaust for my car.. ( better ).. Im thinking 2.5" y-pipes and 3" tips. BUT im not too sure that would sound the best and get the most performance out of it.

Also, I justs wanted to know if it was possible for a tru dual exhaust from the header to muffler, because the mechanic I went to said i cant do it.

I also know i need a new cat, any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Exhaust Suggestions..

Its a V6 right (judging by the lack of Z28 emblems) if so then go with RkSport headers, high flow cat and Magnaflow catback. I have also heard it is not possible to get true dual exhaust on the 6's. As for suggestion on cat I got a Catco high flow ($130 summitracing.com) and it does feel a little bit quicker but with a full exhaust it will help even more. Oh and check out http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...;f=25;t=006640 it has a bunch of diffrent exhuast setups with soundclips

Re: Exhaust Suggestions..

It is possible to do true dual exhaust on f-bodys but it's not really feasable. It is a pain in the butt to do true dual and it will hang down super low so the pipes may hit the ground sometimes, like over speedbumps. Plus, on a six cylinder dual exhaust isn't necessary.

Also if you are looking for good sound look into Magnaflow mufflers I hear they cound great on the 3.8's. As far as the cat goes I have a Catco universal cat sitting here that I will sell you pretty cheap. It's not a hi-flow but it is a 2.5 in 2.5 out. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Re: Exhaust Suggestions..

Go Magnaflow 3" LT1 catback... also a lot of 3.8 and 3.4 guys have problems with catco cats throwing SES lights, much less people have problems with Carsound (magnaflow) cats, I havent had a prob with mine.

You can get a true dual, but it would be expensive, a hassle, give you almost no ground clearance, and would probably be overkill on the v6. if you want to check it out tho, I know texas speed makes a true dual kit.

Re: Exhaust Suggestions..

my fbody has true dual exhaust. the left side crosses over lile stock and both pipes run under the right side but cross over the axle so the right side comes out the left rear so both pipes are about the same length

I disagree with that. The hanging low part. I am going to run Kooks stainless 1 7/8" longtubes, and custom 3" true duals. From the pics and the cars I have seen with the exact set-up, there is no clearance problems.
BTW...I am going to running Magnaflow mufflers on my duals.

I forget what whether you have a V6 or V8, but I heard a Z28 with some kind of dual glasspack setup, It sounded like crap. Loud, but like crap. If you go dual get a muffler and put turn downs right after it.
Now that would sound sweet...

i jus tgot done putting on a spintech exhaust last night for my friend, hes got hedman headers with a y-pipe that goes to stock location b4 the cat on his 83 Z. we took a spintech racing muffler its like a tiny 8X4 (roughly) box, and welded it to the y-pipe, and put a turndown pointed to the back. ground clearance is not an issue, and its loud, and sounds sick. very streetable. i myself have a dump out the side no muffler, sounds good as well. all in ur preferance

Re: Exhaust Suggestions..

I had an idea that Ive been thinking about for dual exhast for a 3rd gen, please tell me if im crazy or right on.

Take a 3" exhast pipe (or 2.5" whatever you want) and oval it, run it along the frame rails as much as you can, and run your duals that way.
