98 taurus headlight wont turn off

hi can anyone help, the headlights wont turn off. when i put it on off the highbeams go on and when i put it on highbeam the indicator goes off but the lights are still on. i have to disconnect the battery for the lights to go off, someone help please!

Do you have daytime running lights? There could be a short in the lever switch. Or possibly the switch could be bad.

Another suggestion, your headlamp relay could be sticking. When u disconnect your battery, u would discharge the relay too let it release. Then that would turn off your headlights.
