Don't know what year you have, but look for the EGRV(Exhaust Gas Recirculation Vent) solenoid. See if there is vacuum coming through it at idle.

OK Check the vent solenoid. I guessed at a 98 when I looked for the repairs.

Re: EGR flow out of range (P1408)

I would also check the backpressure sensor, that seems to be the more common problem with the EGR valve setting off a code. I just replaced mine. I would also try cleaning the EGR first, off the car of course. Good luck.

Re: EGR flow out of range (P1408)

Do you have the 2 valve or 4 valve engine? The 2v follows.Backpressure is the DPFE sensor. It is a little rectangular box about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide with same connections. Shouls sit on top of engine near the center rear on a bracket. If it is a 4 valve, it may be a small 1 1/2 inch square box that is buried under the intake. Same connections.

Did you have the codes cleared? If not then you will need to drive several cycles before it can turn off by itself.

Re: EGR flow out of range (P1408)

If you have an Advance Auto Parts in town, they will loan you a code reader to clear the codes. Or they may do it for you. Usually with no charge.
