99 Camaro missing and bucking

Hey everyone, got a problem I could use some help with. My 99 3.8 is bucking pretty bad whenever the engine is under a light load. The problem is especially bad when trying to pull from low rpms. The problem is not always there but does seem to be getting worse (more frequent). I know I should start with a complete tune up, but right now I just purchased a blazer and am pretty wiped out. By the way the car has about 45k on it. I am thinking maybe the cat is starting to block up but am looking for any help. Thanks alot in advance.

Jeff

Firstly, do you have an SES (Service Engine Soon) light on? If you do, take it to Autozone for a FREE scan. That will pinpoint your problem.

Not getting any fault lights at all. Here's a little more info for you. The car idles perfect and it usually will do it going uphill it seems fine on a downhill and usually ok with cruise on. Just during acceleration when the engine is under load.

Even though your MIL is not on you could still have a code, or almost a code. Some take a Drive Cycles to set the light

I am just guessing here, so don't waste your money on my stupid guess.

I would suspect a MAP sensor is at fault. It is your main load sensing sensor. Another guess would be your EGR valve sticking closed, but this usually happens at slightly higher rpms. The EGR reduces NOX by lowering combustion temps, and if it is sticking when it is supposed to be open, this can result in pinging and/or detonation.

That said, if you do save some money, a tune-up would not be a terrible start. But like the previous guy said, you might want to get a free scan from your local Autozone, if you have one.
