whining noise

Hey Guys, My 2000 /5.7/ 2500 makes a whining or screeching noise sometimes when I sintch off the clutch in 1st or 2nd gear at low revs. The truck runs great, but this noise is making me believe that I'll have to drop some cash on my clutch or tranny soon. In addition, this truck appears to be set up with pretty low gearing. 1st gear is pretty much out of bounds, unless I were to be hauling some really heavy loads up hill. Is this a major deal to adjust? Thanks

Re: whining noise

Is the noise only in one gear or all gears? Is the noise only when you push the pedal in and out? Does the pedal pulse or feel anything but smooth when you are pushing the pedal in or out? Does the clutch grab even if you are all the way in on the pedal? Answer these questions and we can get a better idea of what is going on.

Re: whining noise

The noise happens at low revs in 1st, 2nd and reverse. My 89' heavy half did the same thing. The clutch appears to be grabbing just fine and the pedals don't feel any different than when the noise isn't happening. It happens upon release of the clutch only. Thanks for your speedy response.

Re: whining noise

If it was the throw out bearing it usualy would do it in and out of all the gears. It sounds like possibly the bearings for those gears as those gears get the most use. Can't hurt to have a few trans shops test drive the truck and get a free diagnosses.

Re: whining noise

I'm not sure of the location. Somewhere under there. I'm sure if I popped the hood and layed in the engine compartment while a buddy gaver' a few times I'd find the source. I'd hoped this forum could provide some answers before I did that. Does yours do it everytime you release the clutch, or just sometimes? Mine is occasional.
