Re: starter replacment/passport/rodeo

How accurate is this compared with a '98 3.2 V6? I'd hate to get about 1/2 way done and then have to call a tow truck.

Has anyone else accomplished starter removal/replacement this way?

thanks

starter

Nos,

I am getting ready to change out my starter this weekend. I have heard there are only 3 ways to get the starter out. Jack the engine, take off the exhaust pipe at the manifold, or disassemble the starter and selenoid in the engine compartment and remove seperately. I was able to remove the starter motor but not the selenoid. I will probably jack the engine first. Let me know what you did.

Matt

I removed the exhaust pipe. Get some PB Blaster and soak the studs/nuts before wrenching.

I have a '98 Rodeo and just accomplished a starter R&R this morning. When I removed the two mounting bolts it practically fell out. As a matter of fact, if not for the positive cable being attached, it would have fallen and hit me in the face. I had no problem with the exhaust being in my way. Entire job took less than half an hour.

Good luck.
