2001 Cavalier-Car Overheating

2001 Cavalier w/ 82,000kms. My car started overheating today, after only a short drive to work. Rad is fine, not making any noises, I'm assuming its the thermostat. If anyone has had this problem, please post on how much it costs (Candadian or American), if it's easy to do? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Overheathing could be a lot of thing!water pump...head gasket blowned...some water line.....But the thermostat could be the problem too!I change mine thermostat on my 95 sunfire 2,2...It cost 16 dollars canadian....And the job is almost easy tio do....Keep in mind that you will need to adjust your water level

overheating on a short drive to work, Did you sit in traffic? or was the car always moving?

If you were doing a lot of stop and go and sitting it could be the fan is not kicking on.

No sitting in traffic. Was a 10 minute drive, a couple of stop signs and lights, nothing major. The car has been babied and everything was recently checked out. Thanks for any advice.

well then you are most like on the right track thinking it is a thermostat or water pump. I would start with the thermostat replacement should be more then $20 for a new one.
