new steering column question

i have a 1988 z24 5 speed and i need new steering column can i take one out of just any cavalier from that year and put it in or does it have to be out of a 2.8 liter 5 speed

I would stick with one from a 1st gen, and yes same engine. I am not 100% sure on the older models, but its a safe reasurance it will work properly.
