'89 turbo lebaron convertable
Im looking to possibly upgrade the turbo, and some internals. I have a 1989 lebaron confertable 2.2. the trim on the door says turbo gt, so Im not sure exactly the modle. 1 I was wandering if anywne knew the exact modle name, and if anyone knew where I could get more detailed info on the engine, and other parts. Im looking for somewhere to get pistons, rods, and a new turbo/blowoff. any help is appreciated

Alright, you have me confused.
If you have a 1989 LeBaron you can't have a 2.2L unless you have a Turbo II. Is your car an automatic or a manual? If you look under the hood is there a small looking radiator next to the overflow attached to the radiator? As far as I know there wasn't a LeBaron GT in 1989 just the Premium, Highline, GTC, and GTS. So do you have a GTC? Any pictures under the hood and of the outside would help. I know of a ton of things you can do to your car, I just need to know where you're starting from. |

Re: '89 turbo lebaron convertable
Thanks for the reply, I definatly have a 2.2 turbo, and I dont know if its a gtc, the side of the car says "turbo gt" havent seen that anywhere else
and no there isnt an intercooler visible. I will try to get pics tonight. btw it is a 3 spd atuo. (no od) so, 3500rpm @ 80 mph

Re: '89 turbo lebaron convertable
so, my luck is getting betterer... we were (by we, I mean my friend) trying to get my car to go into 1st gear, wich it hasnt done by use of the shifter since I got it. well the linkage has come out of the mechanism the handle is connected to , and seems to be bent, and will not go back in. so, Im thinking that the linkage is supposed to be straight between the 'fulcrum' for lack of a better word to the connection to the shifting mechanism? and have you heard of this happening? and on a side note, (just me being frustrated) My dishwasher sounds EXTREMELY PISSED, so please feel sorry for me

Re: '89 turbo lebaron convertable
okay, Ive researched the vin, and found that its a 2.5 turbo I I got the linkage straightened out, and it still wont shift. great. so I will have to trace the linkage to the transmission. good thing that the tranny in a front wheel dr car is easy to get to lol

Yeah, sorry for the slow response.
Yeah, in 1989 you could only get the 2.2L engine on the Turbo II which was only offered in the GTC with a manual with the A-555. I have a brochure on the GT which was a special, and rare, LeBaron. As you said you have the 2.5L Turbo I. As with the GTC the GT was just a highline LeBaron with some different trim and options. The good news is that you have the same engine as the Turbo II. The only difference is the crank shaft which has a longer stroke and is cast instead of forged. However, you do have the same forged rods as the Turbo II. You can always do a Turbo II conversion. There a ton of ways to add power to your car. The best place to start is The Dodge Garage. You also might want to register at the Turbo Dodge Forums. There are a lot of people there and you can get pretty much ANY question answered there. As for the tranny, I don't have much experience with automatic transmissions. My guess would be the computer that controls the transmission or a fluid blockage. I’m not on AIM much but I’ll get on there tonight or tomorrow night in case you have any more questions. I’m glad to help out a fellow J-body owner. |
