Wip - Amt '67 Gto
Well... after looking at all these awesome models, I decided to join the modeler's club (Can get quite adicting!).
Anyways... this is my very first model - AMT 1967 GTO xXx (from the movie) The kit itself is not that great, but it was cheap and I figured it would be better not to start with a $40 Tamiya kit. (was I wrong?) It is pretty stock the only thing is that I decided to putty the dashboard and smooth it out (It had some slots to put 6 or 7 extra gauges) Enough with the talking... here is the car ![]() Here is the box ![]() Question: Should I polish with Megiars scratch X or just leave as is? (I used Tamyia Spray - Deep Metallic Blue TS-53) ![]() Still deciding if I should use the regular muffler or the side muffler... what do you think? Any comments are appreciated Thanks for looking |

I would not polish the metallic paint directly. In fact, all Tamiya spray metallics, pearls and micas really need TS-13 Clear on top for ultimate gloss. You better wait 30 days for the base to dry before clearing to prevent cracking of the clear unless you apply the clear within 30 minutes of the last color coat.
Looks good...keep us posted on your progress. Marc

tigeraid - I think it is just beginner's luck!
Okiemodelbuilder - I was thinking about putting bare metal foil on the trims of the windows and arond the wheel hole (don't know the technical name). Should I do the clear after or before applying the BMF? Another question I had was what to do with the headlights? The came chromed with the front bumper. I did a search and saw that some people use MV lenses. Would it be ok to use some sort of epoxy that dries clear? Or maybe something else? I just don't quite like the bare chrome look (Am I being to picky for a first model?) Thanks again for all the comments |

Awesome work for a first model!
IŽd go with sidepipes, it would look sooo mean Putting BMF on a car is the absolute last thing you do, so if I were you IŽd do following: (if youŽre not satisfied with the shine the way it is now) wait for a month as Okiemodelbuilder said then clearcoat, wait for another week then polish the clear. After this you can apply the BMF (good luck with it, it takes a lot of patience). As for the "lenses" IŽd drill them out and replace them with mv-lenses as you suggest and glue them with regular white glue or Microscale kristal klear (both dries clear).

Re: Wip - Amt '67 Gto
Nice work!
Before you drill anything out up front, try to give the headlights a thin layer of gloss white and see how it turn's out. If you aren't satisfied with the looks of it, then try the MV-lenses. It's all about how high you want to aim. Keep up the good work! Niclas |
