I assume it is the same as trhe 99s

You need one programmed remote in addition to the one that you are trying to program.

You turn on and off the ignition 8 times and leave it in the on position. The doors locks should cycle. You then press any button on the programmed one and then a button on the new one. Again the doors will cycle.

Search for "1999 Ford Windstar remote programming" as the procedure is listed there.

Well then you haven't tried it as you need one working remote to program additional ones at home using the method I described.

Unfortunately you must have a dealer program it for you and of coursethey will make a pretty profit.

re, keyless remote

thank you for trying to help. when we bought the vehicle last week, we did not notice until we got home that it did not work. then we came on here to try to find some answers. i went to ford and first they want $45 for a key and $79 to program it, as we only have one key.. i have contacted the dealer we purchased from in regards to the key. when i went to ford they said they would check out the keyless remoe, and that it may have to be reprogrammed, i guess this is something only they have the equipment for. i tried several times with the key, turning it 8 times, and nothing, no movement in the locks,i was also told 5 times, tried that too. must be a different sequence, but anyways, thanks again for trying to help, ill let u know of the results, wayne

Hello, I definitely know the frustration. I bought a spare remote (for a Suzuki) on ebay that came with no programming instructions. Somewhere during my online search for instructions, I read that the dealer should have given me an owner's manual addendum containing remote programming instructions. Armed with that knowledge, I called the dealer and told them they'd failed to give me programming instructions and that I need a copy faxed to me. The service rep, of course, said he'd have to check with someone and call me back. Sure enough he called back about an hour later and faxed me the instructions.

You might try that approach--tell them you're aware that programming instructions should have come with your remotes. Since you just bought the car, I think they're obligated to provide you that info.

One more thing to check-- if you believe the instructions you already have are good (or if the dealer faxes you the same instructions you have already), you might see if replacing the remote battery helps. Best of luck!

Went to a ford dealer today to book an appointment to have a key made and they have to set something as it has the anti-theft system. $45.00 for the key and $79.00 for 1 hour labour to reprogram. At that time they are going to scan something to see if the remote thingie SHOULD be with my vehicle. She tried there to program it but no luck for her either.
