Steering slop

I talked to my mechanic the other day, and he said that GM put out a new service bulletin that says 2 inches of play in the steering is within specs. What the.........? They are killing me.

Your vehicle doesn't have any steering related TSBs.

How do I find out what I need? Also is there an airbag worry when installing and uninstalling? Thanks in advance.

Do normal testing all on the components mentioned, if you have more than a 100k on your existing intermidiate shaft, changing it is definatly due. Swap to a zq8 steering box... And as when working on anything involving the steering column, disconnect your battery for 10 minutes prior to service.

You can't replace just the rag joint. You need to replace the entire intermediate shaft... Or you can go to a solid shaft as stated in the article.

I have 67,000 miles on my 99 GMC SLT. Would that be the problem with the sloppy steering, or should I be looking elsewhere. I have just put a new idler arm on. It helped some. Is there also a picture of the set screw on the steering box that can be tightened? Thanks in advance.

Depends... If you're rag is subject to a lot of salt from the winter it could be. I would also be looking at the pitman arm...
