Re: 96 GA,Just dies ?

It sounds like it may be fuel-delivery related. If it takes a few minutes before you can start it back up, it's most likely the fuel pump going bad - bad fuel pumps overheat easily, and then take a while to cool back down, then they start working again.

When it shuts off.... and won't restart, does it crank and not fire.... or not even crank?

If it cranks then I'd go with the fuel pump like Ridenour suggested....

If it's not cranking then its something else.

Yes it cranks over,So I`ll have them check out the fuel pump like Ridenour said .
Thanks to all replyed.
Oh my have you seen the price for a fuel pump on a Grand Am ?
Advance auto has them for $319.00 Ouch .
Can I install a fuel pump right in the fuel line ? An after market one.

I second the motion on the fuel pump. Ridenour gave you good advise.

96 GA Dies

OK If it is the fuel pump,How do I test it,well how would the shop that has it check to see if it is the fuel pump that turns itself off ?

Pulling out my last hairs on this one.

Thanks inadvance

Re: 96 GA,Just dies ?

Just curious, wheels, did you search to see if the in-line fuel pump was an option for ya? Or did you just have to replace it as original back into the fuel tank?

Re: 96 GA,Just dies ?

No I was told it would cost more to do it that way.The old pump would have tobe taken out and labor would be high bucks.
