removing starter in 95 altima

I have a 95 altima AT and im trying to remove the starter. Ive disconected the battery connection to it and removed the mounting bolts, but it still wont come off, is there a trick to getting it off, or am i just missing something?

Both starter mounting bolts should be the ones with lock washers. Bellhousing bolts have a flanged head W/O a lock washer and one of them is very close to one of the starter mounting bolts.

i have the manual they carry at auto zone, i think its by the haynes company, it shows it on the back side, under the intake manifold. is it possible to get to with a normal ratchet with extension?

Yes. Have you removed the air box? It is the Haynes Manual that is missing something! The book does not mention removing the air cleaner assembly as described on page 4-7. With the air cleaner box removed you will see what the picture on page 5-10 (17.4) shows you.Remember where you find the rubber vent hose with the hook shape on the end that goes inside the zip-tie. The hose only connects at the transmission. Use your socket and extention to move the wire harness enough to put the socket on the starter bolts that go through the transmision bellhousing. When the two bolts with lock washers are loose, the starter will be seperated from the engine.

Right to the left of the throttle body but towards the top of the transaxle, you will see two bolts located on the top of the bellhousing. These bolts are close together, so thats how you should know. The left one is simply a bellhousing to engine bolt, the one right to the right of that is the upper starter bolt. Take that off, that is the first one of two, so have another person under the car holding on to it once you take off this next one. For the second one, follow the bellhousing farther down next to the right, and their will be another bolt, even closer to the throttle body(the air box and connecting tubes must be taken off, dont forget that there are some bolts located inside the airbox on the bottom). Just take that second bolt off and it should be free. Note, the started bolts are longer then any regular bellhousing to engine bolts. I just replaced my clutch and had to do all that so it should be pretty accurate, but it might be different for an Automatic transmission.
