87 s-10 tailgate lock/handle

The tailgate lock handle mechanisim just popped out of the hole, and being a novice at bodywork, I dont know what was keeping it on in the first place. There was nothing inside the tailgate itself, and I didnt see a place on the unit where anything would attach itself to the rear to hold it in place.

Any insite and help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you taken the back gate apart or did you just see through the hole?

It porbably should be connected to a metal lever that would release the gate pins..

This: http://www.1aautomotive.com/pics/plp/PLP1810902.jpg is the unit that came out, not just the black part. I removed the interior trim panel and gained access to the inner tailgate, but like i said, I found nothing in there that would act as a fastener for the unit

Re: 87 s-10 tailgate lock/handle

I find that a lot of equipment on my truck was held in place with an industrial type sylcone... If I had to guess I would say to use something along those lines to reattach it!
