shaving plastic bumpers?????

hey i just joined the site so im new to all of this but i was wondering about doing some shaving on the bumbers of my golf, i was just wondering if i should be using fibergalss or what and if so any tips or sites on how to apply it like what kind of backing am i going to need etc?
any information is going to be a big help thanks
