Question 95 GLX TD/STD Fuse #21 problems "this is a more detailed thread" 2 of 2

When I install Fuse #21 "interior lighting", with the key removed from the ignition, the engine idiot lights boot up, oil pressure, charging system and fuel tank pump starts up , "no yellow glow plug light", clock starts from 0, the electric locks start working, but the interior lighting doesn't not function , even though the four switches are selected to the door position, interior lighting works fine manually , a 15 amp fuse will blow, a twenty amp fuse will start to heat up after a minute or so, no damage to the wiring has occured.

With #21 installed and the engine running the key will not shut down the engine, and all of the above funtions are the same , idot lights will have gone out because it's running ,and the clock starts at 0

I think there must be a relay that determines if the ignition has been selected to the off position and it has failed , also front passenger electric window doesn't function ever, but the window motor with the module removed can be hot wired, I think the window is a separate problem "module"

interior lighting will function manually with fuse 21 removed and ignition selected to on

The most common cause of wierd electrical problems as you describe is a faulty "ignition" switch (electrical portion).

You can get them from VW or aftermarket, they're not that expensive, just a pain to replace.
