2001 Sequoia keyless entry help

I have a 2001 Sequoia SR5. Never had keyless entry. Bought one on ebay last week and tried to program it with the following instructions but no luck.
Is it possible that my car is not keyless entry compatible?
Thanks
Harsha

unlock all of the doors in the car, open the driver's side door, and make sure the key is not in the ignition
2. put the key into the ignition and then pull it out without turning it or anything
3. within 40 seconds, lock and then unlock the doors five times using the power lock button on the driver's side door.
4. close the door and then open it again
5. within 40 seconds lock and then unlock the doors five times again using the power lock button.
6. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position (not acc and not far enough to actually start the engine) and then back to the off position, then back to on and back to off.
7. Pull the key out of the ignition
8. If you are successful, after about 5 seconds, the doors should power lock and then unlock on their own. If that doesn't happen then try again from step 1.
9. within 40 seconds, hold down the lock and unlock button simultaneously on the remote for a second. Then release and hold down the lock button for 3 seconds. The power locks should cycle again once on their own. If they don't cycle exactly once, repeat this step from the beginning with the remote again.
10. Repeat step 9 for every remote you want to program. You have to do this with any remotes that were previously programmed because this process essentially resets what remotes the car will respond to.
11. Close the driver's side door to signify that you are done programming the remotes.

I also have an '01 but with the factory installed keyless remote. I have been trying for a week to program another remote. I have folled the same instructions and it only worked once. The problem I ran into though, is that when I tried to reprogram my original remote that one no longer worked. Ever since then I have retried the sequence - about 50 times - and it will not work. After completing step 7, the locks cycle twice (don't know if that is normal or should it only be once) and after holding down both buttons simultaneously, I hold down the lock button and it immediately locks and unlocks the doors twice. If you or anyone else have any advice, please let me know.

Did anyone ever figure this out. I am in the same boat, but with a 2002?

Re: 2001 Sequoia keyless entry help

When you turn the switch on and off do it 5 times so you can erase all the codes and start over. If your vehicle has had other keyless entries programmed to it before it will only hold 4. So by turning the ignition 5 times right before your suppose to remove key it will erase all transmitters added in the past. This is what my books says. "Switch ignition ON and OFF once to program a remote transmitter code whilst retaining the original codes or twice to program a remote transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes. Three times to check how many remotes transmitters are currently registered or five times to erase all registered codes......Note: A maximum of 4 remote transmitters can be programmed
