Unhappy wont go past 80, please help

aight, well i got a problem, when i was driving the other day, i went to top out my civic and the car wouldnt go past 80 mph, i tried this a couple of times and got the same results. the car will drive fine down the road, has good throttle response and everything, but when the car is at high rpms, the the tach needle seems to float and bounce around quickly, but u cant feel it at all. when the car gets to around 70 or 80 mph, it will feel like i am letting off the gas a little then going back on it, when the pedal is to the floor the whole time. at first i thought it was a speed limiter, but i read on this site that there isnt one. the problems i can think of is there is a smoke in the exhaust, kinda bluish white, and i was told it might have a cracked block, so maybe compession is to blame? The ecu is also throwing a code 7, which is throttle angle, so maybe the throttle isnt opening all the way, or the throttle cable needs to be replaced? the only mods i have done to the car are a muffler,(just the muffler, no pipie), and a short ram intake. the car is a 88 lx sedan, 5sp, with 210k mi. any help would be apreciated. thanx alot.

could be, have a friend push the pedal to the floor (with the car off) and you look at the throttle body and see if its opening fully, and why do you want to top out a cr with 210k miles on it???

ill take a look at the tb and see what happens, the reason i wanted to top out my car was because i just got rid of an 88 accord lxi, which was a great car btw, and wanted to see how an 88 civic lx would compare to it with 20-30 less hp.

your tps(throttle position sensor) might be bad. so when you floor it the mechanical stuff it open and the ecu thinks (for example) your at half throttle... that would cause it to only give it the amount of fuel for half throttle. it would be hard to say though, the ecu would go into limp mode to prevent the lean condition...

thaty bluish white smoke is steam, you got a blown headgasket. And from that you will lose alot of power.
