Tcfco, i'm gonna do the samething eventually. I hate drum brakes. I think all my springs came loose back there. I would like to know about the 4th gen swap too. I believe you would have to change the master cylinder, and you're gonna have to add abs too. I'm not too sure.... someone help us out!!

Why waste the time and money taking out one shitty 7.5 ten bolt and replacing it with another shitty 7.5 10 bolt.

Other than that, you would need a new master cylinder but, I am not sure if you would need the the abs unit

Hyspi87, wouldn't a 4th gen 10bolt be better than a 3rd gen? Didn't most of them come with better gearing and discs brakes? I know mine has 2.73 and drums. Are the 700r4s from 85-92 almost identical to 4le60(is that it? i don't know) from the 4th gens?

a 12 bolt, ford nine inch blah blah blah
moser, strange engineering people like that make them

3rd gen, 4th gen it does not matter. It is still a POS 10 bolt with the small 7.5 inch ring gear. Sure the carriers might be different. If you guys are serouis about making power, or running some sticky tires. you will blow that rearend up in a matter of weeks.

Naw don't want too much power just enought to be able to run low 13's in the future(way into the future), could we just beef up the 10 bolt to handle i say 300rwhp? Btw hyspi, what rearend do you have in the GN?

if you want the power to run low 13's you will break that rearend. (assuming you are going to be on a set of sticky tires)

The GN has a 10 bolt in it but it is the beefier 8.5 inch ring gear 10 bolt. They are 12 bolts in 10 bolt colthing. they will hadle crazy power with no problem

Could you put a 8.5 inch ring gear in our 10 bolts?

nope the 8.5 ten bolt has an entirely different carrier.

Also to my knolwedge, no one makes one to go into the F-bodies.

You could go with the nine bolt aussie rearend out of the IROCS and TTA's and GTA's

I think i'll just suck it up and hope in the future that i can run into one of those nine bolts. I saw a couple on ebay for a couple of hundred dollars, but they are to far away to deliver to my area. Junkyards i've gone too only have regular maros' and birds'. I'll keep a look out for one.
So tcfco, i think we both should aim to try and aquire one of these nine bolts, cuz i also think they will be a direct fit. Correct me if im wrong.

Re: rear end swap

If you run the 12 bolt or 9 inch keep in mind it'll rob more power

What do you mean by rob more power? Weren't those 9 bolt from the 350 irocs and ta's weren't better than the crapola i have now. If your talking about losing out on top end power, i read an article from an old motor trend magazine on the web about the top 10 fastest cars test (in 1988)iroc and Gta were in it. Iroc top out at 147, while the Ta top out at 141.

Re: rear end swap

9 INCH not 9 BOLT, i dont know much abotu the 9 bolt. But the 12 bolt or ford 9 inch are bigger than the 10 bolts, and heavier. More mass to rotate = more power los to the wheels. 4th gen 10 bolts can hold up to I think it's around 400 horses... get one out of an LT1 for your cars, and make sure it's one without traction control.
